Q: How do I read Cyrillic text?
Q: It seems, there is a problem with the encoding
The www.forth.org.ru site uses the Windows-1251 encoding. Some links may point to KOI8-R sites (a.k.a. KOI-8). Plain text documents may use the MS-DOS encoding CP866 (a.k.a. 866, a.k.a. alternative GOST encoding, a.k.a. alternative encoding).

There is also software that enables one to:

  1. a) detect unknown encoding and convert messages to some known encoding:

  2. b) convert Cyrillic to Latin (but some information about spelling may be lost, e.g. sh may mean sh or s-h ) and vice versa (again, mistakes are possible):
